Collection arrangements

Often the most cost-effective approach is to use a combined garbage and recycling collection service. This combined arrangement may not suit all workplace materials, so investigate options and specialist contactors or facilities to deal with any gaps in the collection service.

When reviewing suppliers and contracts, make sure the following considerations are addressed and costs are disclosed:

container size and configuration
frequency of collection

For combined collection services, also check and confirm:

organisational commitment and targets for garbage and recyclables
apportioning of containers between garbage and recyclables
frequency and timetabling of collection for both types
apportioning of collection rates and quantities between types, and
impact and penalties (if any) for proportion or rate changes
